Joe Caruana Curran
Born on 15th December 1957. Received primary education at St. Joseph School, secondary education at the Lyceum in Hamrun and graduated in Economics (with Honours) in 1977. Served as President of Valletta water polo club between 1982 and 1986, was president of the Valletta football club between 1986 and 2003, was president of the Federation of Industries in Malta from 1997 to 2001, president of the Malta Billiard and Snooker association from 2006 to 2013 and vice president of the European Billiards and Snooker Association from 2008 to 2013. Sat on the board of directors of the Malta Sports Council from 2008 till 2014 and has been president of the ASA of Malta since 2010.
Karl Martin Galea
Vice President - Water Polo
Born on the 15th of July 1973. Karl received his primary and secondary education at De La Salle College Cottonera. He studied accounts and achieved his Diploma with full grades in 1990. Karl played Water Polo with all the Sliema ASC Junior teams until the age of 18. In 1993 he was elected to the Sliema ASC Committee and was responsible for the construction of the closed pool and all Water Polo matters. He remained part of the Sliema ASC Committee till 2013. In February 2014 Karl was elected to the post of Acting Vice President - Water Polo within the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta and in November 2015 was elected to the post of Vice President - Water Polo. Amongst his responsibilities within the ASA he is tasked with all travelling and accommodation logistics for the Water Polo National Teams and also acts as Team Manager. He is furthermore entrusted with all matters related to the foreign referees who officiate during the Summer Championship.
Vice-President - Swimming and Chairman of the Swimming Technical Committee
Born on 2nd November 1963. Received secondary education at De La Salle College Cottonera, 6th form in the UK, and graduated from the University of Malta in Pharmacy (with Honours) in 1988. Participated in many sports at high level including swimming, waterpolo, basketball, athletics and bowling. Served as a member of the swimming board for a number of years after which has held the position of Vice-President (Swimming) and Chairman of the Swimming Technical Committee for the past years.
Born 14th September 1967 in Malta, educated at St Joseph School, Sliema. She has been involved in aquatics locally for the past twenty-five years in various organisational roles. The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta has been entrusted with the organisation of numerous international competitions in which she has always been the main reference person on the Organising Committee, namely the Games of the Small States of Europe in 1993 and 2003, the European Junior Swimming and Diving Championships in 2001 and the European Junior Water Polo Championships in 2013. After having worked for a few years in a secretarial role she was elected to the post General Secretary of the Association in 2014. Rita has also represented the Association in various overseas fora including the LEN Congress. In addition, she has accompanied the National Teams of Water Polo to a number of international competitions including the Commonwealth Water Polo Championships in Aberdeen and the 1st European Games in 2015 in Baku.
Vice President - Administration and Development
Born on the 13th of July 1972, he received his primary education at San Giljan Primary School and his secondary education at De La Salle College. Carlo obtained an Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business from the ACCA and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Henley Business School, UK. As a qualified coach, Carlo held football coaching roles in the UK and Malta at youth level. He was the President of Siggiewi Basketball Club (2013-2016) and until recently first as committee member (2015-2016) then as Club Secretary of San Giljan ASC (2016-2019).
Carlo is specialised in business management, IT and finance and held different roles in the private and public sector both locally and abroad. Amongst a number of senior management roles in Malta and the UK, he was the first Chief Executive Officer of the new Lands Authority, Malta, and is currently an Executive Director of a local company with various interests in the renewable energy, food and beverage manufacturing and distribution, and tourism markets.
Carlo was elected as Vice President, Administration and Development, of the ASA in 2019.
